worship//and its hold on the world

I recently contacted an old friend. Back when we were in the same school,we hung out. Then as soon as the school year ended we went our separate ways. This was approx. 2 or 3 years ago. I stumbled upon his profile a week ago, and noticed something about his profile that stuck out like a pair of 9-inch heels on a petite stumbling girl that had no idea what she was getting into. He has the words "i love jesus" plastered all over his page.
Now, I don't usually hold something against people that devote themselves to god or gods, but I am very judgemental, after all I am human.
We sent a couple of messages together and then it abruptly stopped, it was his turn to reply. I checked everyday.nothing. I checked if he's been online. Everyday he was online. But just not replying to me. I felt bewildered and alienated. I started to think he was repelled by my choice of belief.
I realized all too late that on my page, it said I was agnostic.
wrong move.
but yet again why should I hide my own beliefs if he so freely chooses to put it up on a banner for everyone else to see.
I do find myself butting heads with my boyfriend whenever he does bring up the subject, being brought up as a child differently can do that to a couple.
Which brought up the question, why do lovers clash so often over religion, and why is it such a touchy subject?
I do feel sometimes religion is a security blanket of false hope for some, what mommy & daddy embedded in your brain as you were a young child or as some figure to be more along the lines of FAITH, what is faith? It is a word tossed around all too often when religion is in the picture.

the definition of faith is:
1. confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in an other's ability.
2. belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.
3. belief in God or in the doctrines or teachings of religion: the firm faith of the Pilgrims.
4. belief in anything, as a code of ethics, standards of merit, etc.: to be of the same faith with someone concerning honesty.
5. a system of religious belief: the Christian faith; the Jewish faith.
6. the obligation of loyalty or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement, etc.: Failure to appear would be breaking faith.
7. the observance of this obligation; fidelity to one's promise, oath, allegiance, etc.: He was the only one who proved his faith during our recent troubles.
8. Christian Theology. the trust in God and in His promises as made through Christ and the Scriptures by which humans are justified or saved.

If faith is so closely related to truth and belief, then why do most religious groups seem to act like gangs around one another, to kill for one's religion or die for your own religion? Doesn't that seem a little 'westside' for godly tradition? if religion tears apart people and countries because of indifference, isn't it childish to believe "if you don't believe what I believe then you're going to have pay after you die, or I'll save you by enforcing my own ideals upon you heathen".
I mean, don't all religions closely relate to each other in a sense of: sin, life after death, river with a baby, building large boats in preparation for a sea of destructive force in order to cleanse the palette we call life, pregnant virgins, begotten sons, missing time slots in age progression, etc. I guess its how you determine it...
Speaking of life after death, certain groups believe in heaven and hell. But why? is it really healthy to look forward to death? or is it public-validation and certainty of happiness is what appeals to these people?
On Sabbath, certain people rest, no work, no nothing. Certain christian-oriented stores close on Sabbath, for example Chik-Fil-a. Why should these people rest? If they believe in god so much, why don't they get the fact that he/she took this rest because he had supposedly been making earth for 7 days! that's not a lot of time to create a whole living organism let alone a planet. Did any of these people build life? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say no. Isn't that a little out of balance?
I'm not saying anything against religion, but I do believe it is a emotional crutch to many people, disabling them from more important things-like living. Then again, religion for some,it is their life. I feel it is bogus, really.
I spoke to several friends of mine and found that most of them seem to not have any certain standing on religion, one of them even mentioned how the catholic church can make church goers "buy forgiveness" and "tickets to heaven" in large sums of cash. How christianity makes profit of believer's weaknesses through DVD sales and silly products like "salvation lip balm" or really crappy bands that seem to make every song on every album about god, devotion and this weird obsession with worship. I know that god or gods and the creation of human life is uncertain, but one thing I do seem to be certain about is the crazy industry religion has become, corrupt if you will.

worship causes nothing but chaos, discrimination, and hate.
I believe in belief, not being obsessed with an idea. But just believing that there's an idea. a theory. a possibility.
no certainty.
and that's what I call faith.
